In the mid-1940s, out of passion and love
for maple syrup production, Rolland Chagnon expanded to a second site with around
3,000 taps.

Second generation

In 1965,
the eldest member of the Rosaire family, a young married man, took over the
maple grove and operated the 3,000-tap site with the help of his wife, Pauline.
At the beginning of the 80s, the couple changed to tubing and added the 1,500-tap
site, making a total of 4,500 taps. Rosaire and his wife are members of the
Citadelle Maple Syrup Cooperative. They also sold maple products directly to
consumers at the Drummondville public market from 1965 to 1988.

They sold many
delicious products such as syrup in bottles and on sticks, hard and soft sugar,
maple sugar candies, soft sugar in containers, maple butter, taffy and maple
jelly. They were present every Friday at the market, and it was there, at a
very young age, that their son, Yves, had his first experience offering maple
products to passersby. His passion for seeing satisfied customers was very
probably born at that moment!

The sale of
maple products lasted until 1998 – that is, until the famous ice storm that
made the headlines in Quebec. This chilling event interrupted commercial activities
because of the damage caused to a large area of the maple grove.

Third generation

A few years
later, in 2014, time had healed the sugar bush, their son, Yves, restarted
operations by building a new cabin and installing new equipment. The first production season happened
in 2015, and in 2016, they obtained organic certification from Ecocert.

Production
started gradually with only 1,400 taps at the beginning. In 2017, production
increased to 1,800 taps, and since 2020, production has increased 3,500 taps.

Because of quota
requirements, the entire production from the 2015 to 2019 seasons was sold
exclusively to the Citadelle Maple Syrup Cooperative.

But,
fortunately, the increase in production in 2020 finally opened up the option to
reconsider selling directly to the public once again.
